Trip Description
This trip will be to Grand Cayman (BWI) and overlap the Cayman’s Pirates Week festival. We will be staying at the Cobalt Coast Resort and diving mostly on Grand Cayman’s North Wall, with Dive Tech.
Pirates Week festival: Music, street dances, costumes, games, food and drink, "pirate invasion", Kids Day, glittering parade, sports events, Heritage Days, fireworks! It's fun-filled, festive days in the sun with something for everyone, and a lot of it is FREE!
Our trip leader George Krampetz checked out the SCUBA diving and noted:On each of my first five dives, we saw Eagle Rays floating along the wall. Many dive for years without one such experience. We saw sting rays, large turtles, French Angel Fish, Gray Reef and Nurse Shark, lobster (including the illusive Spanish Slipper Lobster), sea horses, Moray and Sharp Tail Eels and much more; all in clear (100 ft. plus visibility), warm (84º F) water. Both the Cobalt Coast and Dive Tech have a high quality, service focused, operation. Hammerhead Sharks have occasionally been sighted recently as well, and are known to feed in the North Bay. Sting Ray City, is a world recognized dive site, even by non-divers, where divers and snorkelers can hand-feed and interact with Southern Sting Rays and a large, diver friendly, Green Moray Eel, in twelve feet of water.
In addition to great diving, Grand Cayman’s infrastructure is good, with great restaurants, nightlife and shopping. English is the primary spoken language and the people are friendly. Grand Cayman is a ´safe` travel destination with an excellent health care system and a local recompression chamber. US Dollars are freely accepted. Internet connections are available in the rooms and a guest laundry, restaurant and bar is located on-site. The Cobalt Coast is about a ten-minute drive from Georgetown and twenty-minutes from the airport.
