Search and Recovery
This course is designed to enable the Advanced Openwater diver to conduct search and recovery dives safely. Divers will study Boyles' Law, the dangers of Search & Recovery and all safety procedures needed to make safe and successful search & recovery dives. Search patterns will also be covered in this course.
- Purpose:
- The Search and Recovery Program is designed to teach and train the scuba diver to properly locate and recover items under water and retrieve them in a safe manner.
- Pre-Requisites:
- A minimum of 15 logged dives
- Completed medical and liability waiver
- payment of course fee. $250 + Materials
- Materials:
- Basic Scuba gear (knife, regDTator & octopus, BC…)
- YMCA Search & Recovery Manual.
- Complete Scuba Unit, Rentals available at CMS.
- YMCA dive tables
- Light, Slate, Compass
- Lectures:
- There will be 3-4 hours of classroom lectures. Each candidate will be required to pass a written exam.
- Pool Work:
- Swim test
- Blackout maze work
- Line maze/Reel work
- Diver life saving
- Rigging
- Open water requirements:
- Open water requirements are to put into practice the pool work in an open water setting. Each diver will be evaluated on their ability to complete basic Search & Recovery techniques.
- Note: Your fees are required in advance so materials can be provided for the first class.
