Underwater Photographer
The purpose of our Underwater Photographer specialty course is to familiarize divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of underwater still photography. The Underwater Photographer specialty course is intended to serve as a safe and supervised introduction to underwater still photography techniques used in the underwater environment. Training emphasizes fun and safety. The goals of Underwater Photographer training are to develop the student's practical knowledge of photographic principles, composition, film types, strobe and available light photography and camera handling techniques. Additional goals include developing the student's practical knowledge of the preparation, care and maintenance of photographic equipment and to enable the student to take underwater photographs that are properly composed, focused and exposed.
During your Underwater Photographer course with you'll have the opportunity to make photographs on some of Massachusetts top diving sites. Colorful fish and invertebrate, classmates and wreck features will serve as your photographic models. Care, use and handling of amphibious camera systems will be discussed. Academic development will include reading assignments, discussions and miscellaneous handout materials. Topics will include composition and lighting techniques suitable for both "professional" and "point and shoot" style cameras. Hands on experience and skills development will take place during one confined water session and two open water dives. Your instructor will be happy to view your finished photos and offer suggestions to improve results.
